MapAlerter Shortlisted for the Tech 4 Good – Service Award at the Irish Tech Awards 2025

Published in The MapAlerter Blog, Oct 16th 2025

We’re delighted to announce that MapAlerter has been shortlisted for the “Tech 4 Good – Service Award” at the Irish Tech Awards 2025 for our innovative platform, Storm Day.Transforming How Ireland Responds to Storms. Storm Day has transformed how local authorities and communities across Ireland prepare for and respond to severe weather. When storm events hit, they bring urgent risks to safety, infrastructure, and daily life. Traditionally, councils relied on fragmented systems social media posts, websites, or manual text alerts  that were often inconsistent, time-consuming, and reached people too late.

Storm Day changes this. It provides a single, automated platform that ensures critical weather alerts and updates reach the right people at the right time. The system integrates directly with Met Éireann’s official weather warnings, while allowing council staff to log real-time incidents such as fallen trees or flooded roads in less than a minute. These updates instantly appear on live dashboards and are shared with the public through targeted alerts via SMS, email, app notifications, and web dashboards. By filtering information so that only affected communities receive alerts, Storm Day reduces “alert fatigue” and builds public trust. Councils benefit from streamlined coordination and a single, reliable source of truth during high-pressure storm events

Designed and Developed with Local Authorities

MapAlerter has led the design, development, and continuous evolution of Storm Day from day one. The platform was co-designed with local authorities, ensuring it fits seamlessly into their emergency management processes. Our approach is collaborative and hands-on. We run webinars, pilots, and feedback sessions with council emergency planners and field staff. After each major weather event, we review performance and use feedback to further refine the system. This ensures Storm Day continues to meet the growing challenges posed by Ireland’s increasingly frequent and severe storms. We also support our council partners with onboarding, training, and public engagement campaigns so that citizens understand and trust the alerts they receive.

A Platform That Strengthens Communities and Our Mission:

Storm Day has strengthened MapAlerter’s mission to deliver technology that serves the public good. It has expanded our partnerships with over 20 local authorities and positioned MapAlerter as the leading provider of communication and alerting solutions for Irish councils. Beyond business growth, the real success lies in how the platform saves time, reduces risk, and helps protect lives during storm events. Each piece of feedback from councils describing how Storm Day made their response faster, clearer, and more coordinated reinforces our team’s sense of purpose.

    Measuring Success Through Impact:

We measure Storm Day’s success through real-world outcomes:

    • Response time from hazard detection to public alert delivery
    • Accuracy and targeting of alerts to affected areas
    • Staff time saved and improved coordination across council teams
    • Citizen trust and engagement in local authority communications

Every storm season provides more evidence of how technology can make a measurable difference to safety, preparedness, and community resilience.

    Technology for the Common Good

Being shortlisted for the Tech 4 Good – Service Award is an honour that recognises how digital innovation can truly serve society. Storm Day exemplifies “Tech for Good” by using technology to protect communities, strengthen local government resilience, and build public trust. It’s a proud reflection of Irish innovation developed here, for the benefit of everyone who lives here.
