🚧What are Road Alerts?
Road Alerts cover any notified event on the road network that could impact travel or safety. This includes planned works (resurfacing, maintenance, infrastructure upgrades), scheduled closures, emergency road closures, temporary hazards (such as fallen trees or power lines), flooding or other weather-related road dangers, and road diversions. Local authorities are the source of these alerts; they enter the information via MapAlerter’s system when they become aware of the road event.
Road Alerts are always localised, meaning that you will only ever receive road alerts for events that impact you. You will not receive alerts for any events that are located at the far side of your county, meaning you won't receve any unwanted messages.
How You Receive Road Alerts?
Each alert is linked to a mapped location, you only receive alerts relevant to where you live, travel or have chosen when you subscribed. When a road alert is created, MapAlerter sends it out through multiple channels so you won’t miss it:
- SMS: the fastest way for urgent or emergency updates, even when internet is down.
- App Push Notifications: for those using our smartphone app, with rich content, map previews, and history.
- Email: ideal for scheduled or less urgent works, where more detail is useful.
- Website / Live Map & Alerts Widget: view current road alerts in your area at any time on mapalerter.ie or on council-embedded maps.
